Danny McGuigan

Danny McGuigan was born in Belfast, N. Ireland and now lives in Glasgow where he is Centre Director of The Business Development Centre (BDC). He specialises in delivering the following executive training and development interventions: Guiding individuals and organisations on work / life balance issues Leadership development training – one to one and small groups Management skills training – one to one and small groups Mentoring and coaching and teambuilding for top performance Supporting organisations as they navigate culture change processes Guiding organisations on personnel recruitment & retention Danny’s higher education began with an honours degree in economics at the Queens University of Belfast, graduating in 1976 and was followed by four post-graduate awards including his recent PhD for research in HRM at The University of Strathclyde. Danny’s doctoral thesis included research on the factors that influence individual and collective wellbeing and performance in organisations. Before starting up the Business Development Centre, Danny held top-level positions in a number of national and international organisations including training and development at the Siemens International Training Centre at Feldafing, near Munich. During his years there he also contributed to specialist courses at the British Council in Munich. His current client portfolio is a reflection of the public, private and non-profit organisations across Europe and includes The European Patent Office (EPO), Cadbury (Ireland), Siemens AG, Fujitsu-Siemens, Granada PLC, NHS Scotland, Institute of Healthcare Managers (UK), the Strathclyde University Graduate School of Business, the University of Glasgow Staff Development Service, the Glasgow School of Art, BSkyB Broadcasting, the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Motorola and many others. Over the last ten years Danny has developed considerable experience and expertise in the field of stress management in both public and private sector organisations. He has collaborated during that time with one of the UK’s foremost authorities on work / life balance and the management of pressure in the workplace, Dr Stephen Williams. His experience with Dr. William’s world-class pressure management tool, the Pressure Management Indicator (PMI), has propelled Danny to the forefront of this challenging subject area in Scotland. Danny is retained by a number of Local Councils and Healthboards as an expert consultant to facilitate their back to work protocols for managers. Danny is a fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (RSA). He is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM), the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the Association for Management Education and Development (AMED). He is also an accredited mentor with the Scottish Leadership Foundation (SLF).
